Lynda Young Kaffie was born in Corpus Christi, Texas. She attended Mary Baldwin College and the Insituto de Cultura Hispanica in Madrid, Spain, before graduating from SMU in Dallas, Texas where she earned her BFA. Her post-Baccalaureate studies include Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Anderson Ranch Art Center, Snowmass Village, CO, and the Vermont Studio Center,Johnson, VT. Young Kaffie has been showing her work since 1990 in group and solo exhibitions including the Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi, MB Modern Gallery, New York, MD Modern Gallery, Houston, Davis Gallery, Austin, and in various national juried shows.
She is best known for her contemplative approach to the landscape. Her paintings capture a moment in time as seen both directly through the artist's eye as well as from her memory of a particular experience.
Young Kaffie works primarily with oils, most often, in a long, horizontal format. Layering thin, transparent veils of vibrant color on canvas and paper, Young Kaffie creates a sense of depth which allows the viewer to enter into the light and color of an instant of focused attention. Travel to explore landscapes around the world fires her imagination and is the source of Young Kaffie's inspiration.
