Nora McMillen Burke

Nora McMillen Burke is an Austin based visual artist and educator who draws influence from her love of global textiles and the natural world. Born in Austin, TX, Nora studied Textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology before establishing a career in Art Education. Nora works primarily with watercolors, dye and oils, often combining marbling and embroidery techniques, to explore the interaction of multiple processes on paper and canvas. Nora is inspired by the intersection of symbols found in nature and used in an archetypal way throughout global textiles. Her work explores the natural world using plants and animals in patterns that highlight design motifs which connect textile traditions from diverse cultures.
