Andrea Loomis
Andrea Loomis is an Austin, Texas, based German glass artist. Her work is strongly influenced by the dualism of European intellectualism and German crafts tradition that was ever-present in her upbringing and education. Early exposure to centuries-old art along with contemporary works instilled a profound passion for creative expression. The German, Bohemian, French, and Italian glass work that pervaded her childhood and early life left an inerasable imprint. Her world travels across Europe, United States, North Africa, Asia, and Australia furthered her curiosity and deepened her inquisitive interest in humans—their lives and connections, their thinking, and culture.
Andrea Loomis’ mostly colorful kiln-formed glass work arises from her unquenchable thirst for exploration and delivers a fresh take on glass art. The results are exquisite abstract sculptures that both reflect and evolve with the circumstances of our time. Her work has been displayed at numerous Austin Studio Tours, the Dougherty Arts Center, and the Asian American Cultural Center. Her collections were recently featured in Paths of Light, an exclusive joint installation and extended exhibition with Larry Akers' geometric pattern-based sculptures at the Fine Art Gallery at the Old Bakery in Austin, Texas, Spring 2022.
