Melissa Knight

As a batik artist, my work explores color, light and shadow and the interplay between these elements. The illumination of color and light/shadow become the central focus of the art and each of these elements informs the other. I create collage designs, colorful weavings and wall hangings with the batik fabric. Recently I have also been experimenting with batik stamping and dyeing on fabric and paper. I enjoy the rhythmic nature of stamping and the play of light and color in the wax-dye process.
