Steph Granillo

Steph Granillo is the Austin-based artist behind Thread and Foil. She has been sewing since she was old enough to sit on her mom's lap, slowly using a sewing machine to trace shapes drawn on paper. In 2018 she made her first quilt and became completely enthralled with the detailed process.

Steph is an improvisational quilter, so most of her pieces are one of a kind. Everything is created with the goal of being sustainable; her most commonly used textiles include clothing and retired household linens that are stained or damaged in a way that would otherwise lead them to a landfill. She finds inspiration in playful color palettes and in redefining what a quilt can be.

When she is not quilting, Steph can be found playing with fused glass, making waffles, and trying to identify all the birds that visit her garden.
