About 10 years ago I started making simple wire wrap jewelry then began learning silver solder and silvesmithing about 9 years ago. I attended classes in the jewelry department of Austin Community College, an excellent school with good facilities and great teachers. Note that I said, "began" learning silver solder, I still sometimes use the wrong amount of heat and ruin a piece. I've learned that the process is part science, part art and part magic. Maybe that's what captivates me.
Art has always been an interest, several years ago I completed the docent training at The Blanton Art Museum and have greatly enjoyed leading tours there. I never thought of myself as being an artist, maybe designing and making jewelry is a craft, or maybe it is art.
I'm now 86 years old and still learning.
