Tour Stop #392

Alex Saxon

Alex Saxon was born in Dallas, Texas, and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in 2005. She graduated from Reed College in Portland, Oregon, with a Bachelor's Degree in Art History. After earning her Masters Degree in Teaching from Lewis and Clark, Alex became an elementary school teacher for close to ten years. Throughout her teaching career, she continued to challenge herself artistically and was creatively influenced by her students. She never stopped the painting practice she had begun in college. Alex moved to Austin in 2020 to pursue art and music. Her painting influences include Frida Kahlo, Georgia O'Keefe, and Hilma af Klint. She has journeyed through phases of figurative and abstract, and she has found a fulfilling rhythm in her current practice. She paints small watercolors of brightly detailed birds, mandalas, and surrealist objects. She paints large oils of abstracted landscapes. She finds peace in repetition and vibrant color.
