Tour Stop #378

Naxieli Gomez

Naxieli was born and raised in Mexico City to a Zapotec Indian woman and a Classical guitar player. She earned her bachelor's degree in Graphic Design at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and later attended the prestigious Academia de San Carlos in Mexico City where she took her first painting class but gave up painting due to sexism at school. In 2007 she co-founded a graphic design Studio in New York City and lived and traveled for many years before settling in Austin Texas in 2013 where she took oil painting classes with Cecilia Colomé. Naxieli's medium is oil on canvas and her themes are often an exploration of her acquisition of identities as an immigrant woman, her work is heavily influenced by her Zapotec Indian roots. Naxieli lives with her son, Adam and 3 cats.
