Kristen Newcomer

Kristen Newcomer is a self-taught papercut artist based in Austin, Texas. Using a scapel and blade, she makes intricate cuts by hand from single sheets of paper, sometimes using two or more cut layers, to create highly detailed designs. She is inspired by nature, literature, and people's personal stories.

Kristen finds papercutting relaxing and restorative, yet energizing. She likes the idea of removing part of the whole to reveal beauty, knowing like a sculptor that the image or design is there in the paper, it simply needs to be set free from the excess. She hopes her work will inspire people to learn more about the world around them.
