Tour Stop #312

Lydia Garcia

Lydia Garcia is a multi-disciplinary artist who uses natural materials and their degradation to create space for the viewer to contemplate what it means to “consume” content and art objects in a finite time. She utilizes light, video, organic matter, and chemistry in tandem with natural dyeing techniques. Garcia earned her BFA from the University of Texas at Austin and has participated in the Contemporary Austin’s Crit Group program and in exhibitions at GrayDUCK Gallery, The Contemporary Austin, and DORF World, among others. Garcia has also participated in the HotBox residency for Mass Gallery in Austin, TX as well as workshops and webinars for Big Medium, Women & Their Work, and the Contemporary Austin. Garcia is the owner of Ochre & Iron, an evolving social practice in which we share and exchange knowledge and services through interactive workshops, process-based exchanges, and community involvement while generating working materials native to the Central Texas region. Garcia currently lives and works in Austin, Texas.
