Hollyana Melear

Hollyana Melear is a native born Austinite raised by a family of artists, sculptures, and musicians. Her professional career has included art restoration and volunteer conservation support with the University of Texas, Visual Art Instruction, gallery management, and her own artistic pursuits. Hollyana’s surrealistic style, blended with ancient and modern symbolism, has appealed to audiences for commission works, solo, and group exhibitions. She has shown her work at numerous venues including the Texas State Capitol, Julia C. Buttridge Gallery, Austin City Hall, RAW, and EAST, the Austin Studio Tours, and numerous shows outside of Austin. Her series have included serious commentaries on political topics, modern iconic imagery, and whimsical illustrative works.

Hollyana has explored a wide variety of media ranging from watercolor and pastel to acrylic and collage. Forms of ancient spirituality and tradition, and now, politics, have been a continued focus throughout Hollyana’s artistic career. Her academic career in graduate and undergraduate studies have been highly focused on culture, art, text and symbolism, particularly in the Middle East and Mexico.

Hollyana’s newest series Deep Roots strives to connect humanity to nature and bring her audience closer to what lies above, below and around all of us – the living Earth.
