
Lori Sonnier
Lori Sonnier was born in Torrance, California and currently lives in Austin. Her mother Nancy Lacy was a professional artist. Nancy encouraged her creativity and Lori took studio art classes during school.
Lori received her Bachelor of Arts from Pomona College. She studied biology and public policy, but also took art history classes. Later, Lori earned a master’s degree from Duke University and she was awarded two Fulbright Scholarships to Germany.
During her time overseas, Lori traveled to Monet’s home and gardens in Giverny, France and visited museums to see master works in person. She also began painting.
After graduating from Duke, Lori worked in environmental management and took classes through UCLA Extension. She studied color theory, drawing and design.
In 2006, Lori and her family moved to Austin, Texas. She took painting classes at The Contemporary Austin Art School. She also did workshops in Santa Fe, New Mexico with Albert Handell and Lee Rommel.
Lori paints many landscapes, combining her interest in the environment and her love of art. She works primarily in water-mixable oils. She is a member of the Creative Arts Society in Austin.
