Tour Stop #215

Doreen Landrum

From her first dessert delivery business as a child, to sewing, to jewelry-making, to a brief stint baking wedding cakes after college, there hasn’t ever been a time when Doreen wasn’t creating something. About 15 years ago, after realizing that working full time and having a young family had put that part of her life on hold, Doreen began taking pottery classes. Although her formal training continued for several years and with multiple instructors, she is predominantly self-taught through trial and (a lot of) error. Her pottery has been exhibited in a variety of shows, galleries, and demonstrations, but is mainly commissioned works consisting of both functional and artistic pieces. All pieces are either hand-built or wheel-thrown (or both) and glazed by hand (painted, dipped, or sprayed), with as much attention to the feel and function of an item as to the aesthetics. Often elements such as wood, leather, wire, or gold (either fired on or applied as leaf) are added to create an interesting juxtaposition of media. When she is not in the studio, Doreen works full time as a clinical psychologist, running a multi-disciplinary practice in Austin.
