Tour Stop #21

Ralph Pacheco

I’m a longtime resident of Austin, since 1975. I born in San Antonio a block from mission San Jose y Miguel de Aguayo. I’m the 8th generation of my family to have resided at or near my mission. I come from the original founding families of San Antonio and the local Lipan Apache tribes. My roots run deep in Texas.

I received my BFA in Media Arts and Animation and have a background in Graphic Arts. For the last six years however I have been exploring art more connected to my culture as a hobby. I began experimenting with materials that would have been used by my ancestors for adornment. My goal was to push the simple materials I gathered locally and take them further, in an attempt to elevate them to a higher art form. I am the only person that polishes mescal beans to a glass like finish. After 6yrs, I am happy with my results and this will be my first exhibition of my work.

Outside of my art, I am still active in mission community, and still travel to my mission for important events.
