Tour Stop #173

Cecelia Schoening

Cecelia is an Austin-based poet-photographer, behavioral scientist, realist-idealist, techie creative, and al fresco philosopher. Her latest work centers on mindfulness in the information age. With the constant stream of news, notifications, and media competing for our attention – how do we reclaim the power of the present? And by extension, how can we return to our roots, seeing sacredness in the everyday and honoring our oneness with nature?

As a 5th generation Montanan, Cecelia's relationship to the environment runs deep. In modern society, we’ve reached a point of information overload – we’re literally missing the forest for the trees. By interrupting the precision of a digital camera, I cut through the noise to reveal the mood and emotion of a scene as I experience it firsthand. With these 'moodscapes' I imagine how seeing the world with less detail might empower us to have a more grounded, heart-centered experience.

The body of work I’ve been building through my meanderings and meditations taps into the healing power of the ephemeral. These fleeting moments might just pass us by, but reward us greatly when we make the choice to be in the present, in communion with the world around us.
