
Larry Akers
Larry Akers is a constructive sculptor living in Austin, Texas. Raised in Pampa, Texas, he escaped to Austin in 1973 and acquired several mathematics and computer science degrees at UT. Over a 40 year career he worked in formal methods for computing, artificial intelligence, and software engineering, acquiring an affinity for pattern that infuses his artwork.
Eyeing retirement, he segued to a second career in self-taught artwork. A perennial participant in Austin's studio tours and City Hall's People's Gallery, he had his first major solo exhibition at Austin's Dougherty Arts Center in Spring 2019 and created his permanent installation of the "Moire Immersion Hallway" at The Thinkery that summer. He recently had a solo exhibition at the Museum of Geometric and MADI Art in Dallas, won the Georgetown Art Hop3D First Prize, and had shows at the Old Bakery and Link & Pin galleries. He is an AIPP Pre-qualified Artist in Austin and San Antonio.
Larry is a prominent parks advocate in Austin and forged the creation of Butler Park and the Alliance Children's Garden. He loves his wife of 31 years and their son, most of the people he knows, dogs, music, water, and fresh fruit.
