Frieda Pangestu

Born and growing up in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia and currently living in the US. Background in design from Art Center in Pasadena and in architecture from SCIARC in Los Angeles. I am comfortable to say that I am an "in between", between two cultures and between art and architecture.

My interest has been anything hybrid, focusing on figure-grounding which allows multiple readings for my work and makes it open to interpretation.

I try to use a design language that is universal, a language common to all. It is one that heightens one's senses, perception and awareness. It is one that leads to a sense of presence, of ambiguity, of mystery, of curiosity, and most importantly understood by all.

Prior to living in Austin, I was living in LA, studying and working at various design firms. In Austin, while watching my son grow, I experimented with clay and metal. However, the metal has been the material I focus on more.
